Resident Evil Veronica Remake Announced for 2027 at Summer Game Fest
Capcom brought one of survival horror’s most requested remakes to Summer Game Fest 2026 with the reveal of Resident Evil Veronica, a modern reimagining of the classic Resident Evil Code: Veronica. Announced during the June 5 showcase, the game is currently set for release in 2027 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.
The reveal marks a major return for Claire Redfield, who once again takes center stage in a desperate fight for survival. According to details shared by Capcom, Resident Evil Veronica will bring players back to the isolated, zombie-filled Rockfort Island, where horror and madness unfold after another biological disaster. The game is being developed on Capcom’s RE ENGINE, with the remake aiming to introduce modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and more vividly detailed visuals.
Claire Redfield Returns to Rockfort Island
The official Steam listing confirms that Resident Evil Veronica takes place three months after the biological disaster in Raccoon City. After surviving those events alongside Leon S. Kennedy and Sherry Birkin, Claire travels to France in search of her brother, Chris Redfield. Instead of finding him, she is captured by Umbrella special forces and taken to Rockfort Island, which has been transformed into a new survival horror nightmare.
For longtime fans, the announcement fills a major gap in Capcom’s modern remake era. While Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 have all received updated versions in recent years, Code: Veronica remained one of the franchise’s most discussed missing pieces. With Resident Evil Veronica, Capcom is returning to a story that has long held an important place in the larger series timeline while rebuilding it for current-generation platforms.
Capcom has not yet revealed a specific release date beyond 2027, but the first trailer gives fans their official look at the remake’s darker atmosphere, Claire’s return, and the new vision for Rockfort Island. More details are expected to be shared as the game moves closer to launch.
