Marvel is giving its heroes a much-needed change of pace this December, trading world-ending threats for snowball fights, winter getaways, and a few surprisingly steamy seasonal portraits. The publisher has unveiled its latest Winter Break variant covers, a collection from Marvel’s Stormbreakers artists that brings a playful, occasionally flirtatious spin to some of its most recognizable characters.
Across eight covers, Spider-Man, Jean Grey, Daredevil, the Fantastic Four, and Thor embrace the colder weather with considerably less urgency than their usual adventures demand. The Fantastic Four hit the slopes in Gurihiru’s illustration, while Juan Frigeri’s Daredevil takes advantage of his heightened senses during a snowball fight. Elsewhere, the seasonal lineup brings Mary Jane Watson and Moon Knight into the festivities.
Nightcrawler and Emma Frost Turn Up the Heat
Naturally, not everyone is rushing outside. Among the most memorable reveals is Luciano Vecchio’s Winter Break variant for Uncanny X-Men #40, featuring Nightcrawler sprawled in front of a roaring fireplace. The composition gives the beloved mutant an effortlessly seductive moment, and Vecchio’s stellar artwork makes this one of the collection’s immediate standouts.
Emma Frost is equally comfortable commanding attention, with an icy portrait that leans into the White Queen’s famously unapologetic sense of style. Between her confident presentation and Nightcrawler’s fireside lounging, Marvel’s winter celebration clearly has room for more than scarves and snow boots.
The collection also offers an opportunity to appreciate how differently the participating artists approach a shared theme. Some covers favor cheerful group activities, while others lean toward fashionable character portraits, but each takes a familiar hero outside the usual high-stakes setting.
The rollout begins December 9 with Amazing Spider-Man #1005, featuring art by Jonas Scharf, and X-Men #42, illustrated by Geoff Shaw. December 16 brings Fantastic Four #20 by Gurihiru, Friendly Neighborhood Mary Jane #2 by Alessandro Cappuccio, Thor #804 by Netho Diaz, and Uncanny X-Men #40 by Vecchio. Daredevil #10 follows December 23, with Marc Spector: Moon Knight #11 closing out the collection on December 30. The covers arrive as part of Marvel’s broader holiday celebrations, which also include Marvel Winter Break Special 2026 #1, scheduled for December 30.
Suffice it to say, we’ve already started adding books to our pull list.
