The Midnight Universe continues to explore the darker possibilities of Marvel’s most recognizable heroes, with a new selection of variant covers offering another glimpse into its disturbing alternate reality. Marvel has revealed artwork for the third issues of Midnight Spider-Man, Midnight Fantastic Four, and Midnight X-Men, expanding the horror-driven aesthetic of its interconnected comic book line.
Arriving December 16, the covers range from blood-soaked character illustrations to more reimaginings of iconic horror movie posters. Others offer elaborate painted portraits of the Midnight Universe’s transformed heroes, while select artwork provides an early look at characters still waiting to make their introductions, including Misty Knight.
A New Wave of Horror Homages and Midnight Artwork
Each of the three series will receive multiple themed variants, with several prominent artists contributing to the collection. Juan Ferreyra handles the Midnight Bloodbath covers across all three titles, establishing a shared visual identity through gruesome, horror-inspired artwork.
The Midnight Horror Homage covers, meanwhile, come from David Baldeón for Midnight Spider-Man #3, Giuseppe Camuncoli for Midnight Fantastic Four #3, and Matteo Lolli for Midnight X-Men #3.
Other notable contributions include Peach Momoko’s Midnight Special cover for Midnight Spider-Man, Ben Harvey’s for Midnight Fantastic Four, and Skan’s for Midnight X-Men. The Midnight Gallery portraits are handled by Derrick Chew, Phil Noto, and Jeehyung Lee, respectively, bringing distinct artistic interpretations to the line’s increasingly unsettling characters.
The stories behind those covers are moving into darker territory as well. In Midnight Spider-Man #3, writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson and artist ScieTronc continue Peter Parker’s struggle to recover his humanity, while Oscorp pursues the creature he has become and Doctor Octavius develops a disturbing new experiment.
Over in Midnight Fantastic Four #3, Benjamin Percy and Kev Walker send the team into the New Mexico desert in pursuit of evidence of another world, while Midnight X-Men #3, from Jonathan Hickman and Matteo Della Fonte, continues exploring the brutal circumstances surrounding mutantkind in this reimagined universe.
All three issues arrive December 16, continuing the coordinated rollout of Marvel’s new horror-focused line and giving collectors another extensive selection of artwork to collect.
