God of War Laufey Revealed With Faye as Playable Lead and New PS5 Gameplay Details
PlayStation and Santa Monica Studio have revealed God of War Laufey, the next mainline entry in the long-running action franchise. Announced during the June 2026 State of Play presentation, the new game shifts the spotlight to Laufey, better known to many fans as Faye, the wife of Kratos and mother of Atreus. The game is coming to PlayStation 5, though a release date has not yet been announced. Here’s what we know so far.
Faye Steps Into the Center of the Story
The new chapter begins after Faye’s funeral, with death proving to be less final than expected. Faye awakens in a strange land and discovers that the plans she set in motion to protect Kratos and Atreus are now at risk. To save them, she must fight through the Everywhen, described as the afterlife of the gods and a realm where powerful figures from different mythologies collide.
That setup gives God of War Laufey a major lore hook. The series has already explored mortal afterlives and the consequences of divine prophecy, but this game turns toward a bigger question: what happens to gods when they die? The Everywhen is presented as both a birthplace and endpoint for magic, a realm above the worlds fans already know, where gods and creatures from different mythologies exist in uneasy proximity.
The reveal also confirms that Faye will encounter Sekhmet and Begtse, two gods shown in the first look who do not appear especially welcoming to her sudden arrival. As Faye tries to understand where she has awakened, she also has to uncover why the natural flow of magic has been disrupted and whether the Everywhen is a paradise, a prison, or something more dangerous.
Combat Blends Greek-Era Speed With Modern God of War Weight
Santa Monica Studio says Faye’s gameplay has been built around lethality, power, and fluidity—and the new footage certainly proves it to be factual. The team is also combining elements of the modern God of War combat system with movement and agility inspired by the Greek-era games, giving Faye a style meant to feel fresh while still recognizable to longtime fans.
The iconic Deborah Ann Woll (Daredevil, True Blood)returns as Faye after appearing in God of War Ragnarök. She is joined by Jack Quaid (Scream, The Boys) as Phranque, a cosmic cube companion, and Perlina Lau as Rue, an enchanted ribbon guardian tied to a powerful sword.
With a new lead, a myth-spanning afterlife setting, and a combat style built around Faye’s own strengths, God of War Laufey looks like one of the franchise’s most significant pivots yet. But don’t just take our word for it—you can check it out in the official reveal included below.
