Marvel’s Wolverine Shows Off Logan’s Rage in Brutal New PS5 Extended Gameplay Showcase
Insomniac Games is finally letting fans see how savage Marvel’s Wolverine is prepared to get. During PlayStation’s latest State of Play, the studio shared a new extended gameplay look at the upcoming PS5 exclusive, offering a closer look at Logan’s combat style, the central mutant conflict, and the darker edge separating this game from Insomniac’s Spider-Man universe.
Rather than easing players into Logan’s world, the new footage throws him straight into a desperate rescue mission. The trailer follows James “Logan” Howlett as he tracks mutants who have been hunted and captured by the Reavers, a cybernetic militia preparing to deliver them to Bolivar Trask. Jean Grey (yes, we’re getting Jean) also appears as a key figure in the story, described by Insomniac as a powerful telekinetic and emerging leader among the captured mutants.
Logan Returns to the Fight
The setup places mutants in a world where they are largely forced into hiding, with much of society unaware of the danger surrounding them. Team X, a mutant task force Logan rejoins after leaving three years earlier, is positioned as one of the few groups capable of pushing back. That immediately gives Marvel’s Wolverine a survival-driven charge, with Logan pulled into a battle that already feels personal before the claws come out.
The gameplay leans hard into that physicality. Logan can stalk enemies, drop down from above, and tear through Reavers with fast claw attacks. His special combat moves, called Techniques, include attacks like Tornado Spin and Bull Rush, while Critical Strikes can be triggered either solo or alongside other characters, including Jean.
Rage, Healing, and a Highway Set Piece
Rage is also built directly into the combat system. Successful attacks, parries, and kills build Logan’s Rage meter, which can fuel stronger attacks or activate his Healing Factor when he takes serious damage. If pushed far enough, Logan can enter Rage Tier 3, a stylized burst inspired by Marvel Comics’ Black, White & Blood series.
The trailer also highlights one of the game’s bigger action sequences, with Wolverine tearing through a highway on a motorcycle, slashing tires, jumping between vehicles, and fighting Reavers across a moving convoy. It is the kind of violent, cinematic set piece that makes the game feel built around impact more than spectacle alone.
Marvel’s Wolverine launches September 15, 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5. Pre-orders are open now, with bonuses including early access to the Classic Brown suit, Reflective Claws, one additional Technique Point, and four PlayStation avatars. A Digital Deluxe Edition will also include additional suits, claw cosmetics, and Technique Points.
