Supergirl Trailer Introduces Kara’s New Mission and a Cosmic DCU Corner

DC Studios has released the first official teaser for Supergirl, giving audiences their clearest look yet at Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El ahead of the film’s June 26, 2026 theatrical release.

Rather than playing like a straightforward origin beat, the teaser sells Kara as a rougher-edged counterpoint to her famous cousin. Over the course of the footage, Supergirl’s worldview is drawn in blunt contrast to Superman’s optimism (for totally valid reasons), with Kara summing it up in voiceover—he looks for the good in everyone, while she “sees the truth.” The trailer’s needle-drop energy (including Blondie’s “Call Me,” per People) and quick-hit humor keep things propulsive, but the creative team has been clear that the story still goes to darker emotional places than the glossy pacing might suggest.

The movie is directed by Craig Gillespie and adapts the acclaimed Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, with a screenplay credited to Ana Nogueira. In the film’s central storyline, Kara crosses paths with Ruthye Marye Knoll (played by Eve Ridley), a young alien girl seeking justice after her father is murdered by the space pirate Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenaerts). Krypto is also along for the ride, and Jason Momoa appears as the fan-favorite bounty hunter Lobo. Additional casting includes David Krumholtz as Zor-El and Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze.

Positioned as a key next step after James Gunn’s Superman launched the new DCU in theaters on July 11, 2025, Supergirl’s first footage suggests a cosmic-scale adventure with grit in its bones: a heroine who’s still sharp, still funny, still undeniably cool—but carrying damage that can’t be brushed aside by a cape and a smile.

We’re definitely in—but check out the trailer for yourself, included below.
