Marvel Studios’ Biggest SDCC 2026 Reveals, Explained
Marvel Studios returned to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con with a film-focused presentation designed to connect the MCU’s immediate future with the stories waiting beyond its current Multiverse Saga. While television projects such as Vision Quest were left outside the panel, Kevin Feige delivered major updates involving Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Ghost Rider, and the next generation of Black Panther.
Rather than unveiling an extensive release calendar or the highly anticipated X-Men roster, Marvel focused on a smaller group of projects that are clearly important to the franchise’s direction. Here’s everything you need to know from the trenches of SDCC.
Ryan Gosling Is Marvel’s New Ghost Rider
One of the evening’s biggest surprises arrived when Ryan Gosling appeared onstage to confirm that he will lead a standalone Ghost Rider movie. The supernatural Marvel project is scheduled for 2028 and will be directed by Shawn Levy, who previously entered the MCU with Deadpool & Wolverine.
Gosling has publicly expressed interest in playing Ghost Rider for several years, making the casting a rare example of fan speculation becoming an official Marvel project. Although the studio did not disclose whether he will portray Johnny Blaze or another version of the Spirit of Vengeance, the film gives Marvel an opportunity to expand the darker, supernatural corner of its universe on a much larger scale.
Avengers: Doomsday Reveals More of Doctor Doom’s Plan
Avengers: Doomsday received the panel’s most substantial preview, bringing Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Letitia Wright, and several other returning stars to the stage. Marvel also took the time to officially confirm that Hayley Atwell will reprise her role as Peggy Carter.
New footage placed greater emphasis on Doctor Doom’s connection to the Fantastic Four, suggesting that this version of Victor comes from their home universe, Earth-828. Sue Storm recalls knowing Doom before the loss of his family changed him, while Reed Richards confronts him over his actions. Elsewhere, Doom commands an army of Sentinels and battles Thor, further connecting the Avengers conflict to the returning X-Men.
James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, and Kelsey Grammer also reunited in Hall H ahead of their respective returns as Cyclops, Mystique, and Beast. Their presence reinforced the film’s position as the MCU’s first full-scale meeting between the Avengers and several central figures from Fox’s original (and beloved) X-Men franchise.
Ryan Reynolds briefly interrupted the presentation dressed as a denim-clad variation of Deadpool to jokingly request a place in the movie. However, Marvel stopped short of confirming that Deadpool will appear in Doomsday.
Spider-Man and Punisher Face the Hulk
Marvel also screened a new sequence from Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which arrives in theaters on July 31. The footage showed Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher attempting to stop Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk during a destructive confrontation.
The unlikely partnership places Peter Parker between two very different kinds of Marvel heroes. Punisher’s weapons prove largely ineffective against Hulk, leaving Spider-Man to combine Frank Castle’s firepower with his own technology and webbing. The scene adds another major crossover to a film already positioned as a fresh beginning for Holland’s Peter following the identity-erasing conclusion of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Black Panther 3 Introduces a New T’Challa
Ryan Coogler concluded the roster reveals by officially announcing Black Panther 3, which will be released in theaters on December 15, 2028. David Jonsson was confirmed to star as the adult Prince T’Challa II, the son of T’Challa and Nakia who was introduced as a child at the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The casting also establishes that Marvel intends to advance the Wakandan timeline and continue T’Challa’s legacy through his son rather than recasting Chadwick Boseman’s original character.
Finally, Marvel confirmed that Avengers: Endgame will return to theaters in September, with the rerelease expected to include a new Doomsday tease. The announcement certainly brought the panel full circle too, revisiting one of the MCU’s defining events while building anticipation for the crossover that will bring its multiverse storyline closer to an end.
