Marvel Studios Reveals the Official X-Men Cast at D23
After years of speculation surrounding the X-Men’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the next generation of mutants is finally taking shape. During Disney’s D23 showcase on Friday, August 14, Marvel Studios revealed new additions to its upcoming X-Men film, putting more of the ensemble in place ahead of the movie’s arrival. Here’s who has joined the lineup so far.
Marvel Begins Building Its New Mutant Era
Among the biggest surprises of the night was Adam Driver (Girls), who will enter the MCU as Mister Sinister. His casting follows weeks of rumors linking him to the upcoming film, with speculation previously placing him in contention for both Mister Sinister and Magneto.
Marvel also confirmed Christopher Abbott (Girls) as Charles Xavier, introducing a new Professor X to lead the team. Inde Navarrette will take on longtime X-Men favorite Rogue, only weeks after the Obsession star revealed that she had met with director Jake Schreier. Maya Boyd (The Unknown Country), meanwhile, joins the roster as Storm.
Those four additions join several names already attached to Marvel’s new generation of mutants. Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) is set to play Jean Grey following the character’s introduction in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, while Kit Connor (Warfare) will portray Scott Summers, aka Cyclops. Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) completes the currently announced lineup as Emma Frost, bringing another major figure from X-Men history into the MCU.
Behind the camera, Thunderbolts* filmmaker Jake Schreier will direct, with Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear showrunner Joanna Calo developing the screenplay. The project will mark Marvel Studios’ first standalone X-Men feature after years of gradually introducing mutants across the wider MCU and revisiting characters from Fox’s earlier films throughout the Multiverse Saga.
With seven major roles now filled, Marvel’s long-awaited X-Men lineup is beginning to take shape—and there are still plenty of familiar mutants left to cast. X-Men arrives in theaters on May 5, 2028.
