Scream 7 Drops a Kevin Williamson Featurette as Sidney Faces Ghostface Again

Paramount has released a new Scream 7 featurette spotlighting franchise creator Kevin Williamson as he takes the director’s chair for the first time in the series. The behind-the-scenes piece, titled “Kevin Williamson on Directing,” mixes on-set footage and commentary from Williamson with soundbites from cast members, including Neve Campbell and Isabel May.

Williamson’s presence is essentially the real story here, not only because he’s directing, but because his voice is baked into the DNA of Scream. He wrote the original film and returned as a writer for Scream 2 and Scream 4, and the featurette frames this installment as a full-circle moment. Campbell even praises the decision to hand him the reins, emphasizing that he understands these characters and this world on a deeper level than anyone.

The featurette also reinforces what Scream 7 is positioning as its engine: Sidney Prescott’s attempt at a quiet life, and how quickly Ghostface can shatter it. Per the official synopsis, a new Ghostface killer emerges in the town where Sidney has built a new home, with her daughter (May) becoming the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney is pulled back into the nightmare as she confronts the past and fights to stop the bloodshed once and for all.

On the creative side, the film is based on characters created by Williamson, with story credit going to James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, and a screenplay by Williamson and Busick (who previously co-wrote Scream (2022) and Scream VI). The producing team includes William Sherak, Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein.

Campbell returns alongside Courteney Cox, plus an ensemble that includes Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, Mckenna Grace, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Asa Germann, Celeste O’Connor, Sam Rechner, Ethan Embry, Tim Simons, and Mark Consuelos. Reporting has also confirmed the returns of franchise veterans Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley, signaling that Scream 7 may be ready to play with legacy in some unexpected ways.

Scream 7 opens exclusively in theaters on February 27, 2026, including premium formats like IMAX and 4DX.
