Overwatch 2 Welcomes Wuyang, the Waterbending Support Hero
Overwatch 2's newest support hero, Wuyang, has made a striking debut through a powerful narrative reveal. Centered around the “Against the Tide” origin comic, the story—narrated by voice actor Howard Wang—introduces Wuyang as a student at the esteemed Wuxing University, home to elemental colleges including fire, water, wood, earth, and metal. Though his lineage aligned with the prestigious Fire College, young Wuyang was only admitted to the Water College, leaving him burdened by familial expectations.
During a Null Sector attack, Wuyang’s resolve crystallizes: he steps beyond his element, combining self-taught knowledge of fire-based combat with his water affinity to rescue his sister Anran, a prodigy of the Fire College. A moment of crisis heals generational wounds, forging a new sense of honor and belonging in the heart of the Water College.
Blizzard’s release schedule begins August 11 with the motion comic, followed by a gameplay trailer on August 13, and a developer livestream on August 14. An early “Hero Trial” spans August 14–18, allowing fans a hands-on preview before Wuyang officially joins the Tier 18 season on August 26.
Wuyang’s abilities mirror the fluidity of his element. As a support hero wielding the Xuanwu Staff, he launches water orbs (primary fire) and channels healing streams (secondary). His kit includes Guardian Wave to heal and push enemies, Rushing Torrent for enhanced mobility, and an ultimate—Tidal Blast—that shields allies while delivering a healing blast and knocking down foes.
Positioned as the 44th hero to join Overwatch, Wuyang is poised to bring both new mechanics and emotional richness to the roster. Watch the tides shift below.
