Batman Will Return for DC’s ‘the Last Halloween’

Just last month, DC Comics unveiled thrilling news at MCM London about the much-anticipated release of Batman The Long Halloween: The Last Halloween, the epic finale of the esteemed Batman: The Long Halloween saga created by Jeph Loeb and the late Tim Sale.

The original Batman The Long Halloween, expertly penned by Loeb and Sale back in 1996, captivated audiences with its 13-part storytelling and was lauded with accolades, imprinting a lasting mark on Batman's lore. Then in 2021's Batman: The Long Halloween Special, Loeb revisited the captivating storyline which presumably opened the door for the forthcoming The Last Halloween. Now, serving as a riveting 10-part mystery, Loeb's poignant return to the realm of The Long Halloween is poised to conclude the overarching tale as Loeb teams up with esteemed artist Eduardo Risso (Detective Comics, The Batman Who Laughs).

The inaugural issue of the series will showcase the creative prowess of Dave Stewart and Richard Starkings. Subsequent chapters will feature a lineup of esteemed artists, including the likes of Klaus Janson and Mark Chiarello, with additional talents yet to be revealed. Reflecting on this final chapter (via DC), Loeb remarked, "Batman The Long Halloween: The Last Halloween is Tim Sale’s parting gift to me. Tim and I had already decided to tell this last chapter following Batman: The Long Halloween Special, which will serve as the prologue to this 10-part action-packed mystery." Enthusiasts can look forward to the continuation and ultimate resolution of this iconic storyline that has etched a profound legacy in the Batman universe.”

The writer then goes on to elaborate, “Tim’s unfortunate passing put our plans for this series on hold. About a year later, after speaking with Mark Chiarello and Richard Starkings, my partners on the previous Long Halloween titles, we decided the time was right to move this forward as a tribute to Tim, who continues to be with us in spirit.”

Due to its longstanding audience, it’s hard to imagine that this one will go unnoticed — and in all honesty, we’re just excited to see Loeb’s sincere tribute to his longtime collaborator. Batman The Long Halloween: The Last Halloween #1 will be released on September 25, 2024.
