DAN DA DAN Anime Acquired by GKIDS
GKIDS, known for its award-winning animation productions, has recently announced the acquisition of rights to the much-anticipated anime series DAN DA DAN. This marks GKIDS' first venture into a first-run series, expanding beyond its renowned distribution of retrospective series work.
DAN DA DAN is described as a homage to genre films, B-movies, or retro sci-fi creations — and in this thrilling narrative, unlikely protagonists Momo and Okarun embark on a journey where they aim to make each other believe in their respective passions. As they explore locations renowned for UFO sightings and hauntings, they are confronted with inexplicable paranormal activities that push the boundaries of their understanding. While Momo discovers latent abilities, Okarun acquires a cursed power to confront supernatural forces, sparking a destined love story between the two teenagers.
Produced by the esteemed animation studio Science SARU, DAN DA DAN is the directorial debut of studio veteran Fuga Yamashiro — based on the original work of Yukinobu Tatsu, who previously contributed to successful series such as Chainsaw Man, Fire Punch, and Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku.
In a press release, GKIDS’ President David Jesteadt shares, “After years of championing feature animation and the occasional classic series, GKIDS is thrilled to join in the release of our first-ever new animated series. We could not think of better partners than MBS and the artist geniuses at Science SARU, who we have had the fortune of working with on many films before. DAN DA DAN has been an office-favorite manga since its beginning, and we look forward to helping fans discover this vital new series later this fall.”
