The Summer Hikaru Died Earns an Anime Adaptation

Much to our excitement, the renowned horror manga The Summer Hikaru Died is officially set to receive an anime adaptation — coming in 2025.

In addition to our own feelings, the announcement has also sparked excitement among avid readers (currently being published in English by Yen Press) as they eagerly anticipate the transition of the chilling manga storyline onto the screen. And with its strong source material and richly grim universe to pull ideas from, the anime adaptation definitely has all of the ingredients required to become a new classic in the realm of horror genre entertainment.

The title’s official synopsis perfectly sets the stage for the series of complexly horrific instances that follow, teasing, “It has Hikaru’s face. It has Hikaru’s voice. It even has Hikaru’s memories. But whatever came down from the mountains six months ago isn’t Yoshiki’s best friend. Whatever it is, it’s dangerous. Carrying on at school and hanging out as if nothing has changed—as if Hikaru isn’t gone—would be crazy…but when it looks so very like Hikaru…and acts so very like Hikaru…”

We won’t get too spoilery for those who are either interested in picking up the first few volumes of the manga — or for those who just want to enjoy the anime on real time. However, we can say that it’s going to be one wild, visceral ride with three strong characters at the forefront. So buckle up!

Stay tuned for further updates on the upcoming anime adaptation of The Summer Hikaru Died as it progresses towards its release date, promising fans a journey into a world of darkness and suspense that is bound to leave a lasting impression.
