Disney+ Reveals Its Most-Watched Original Series
After dropping a healthy assortment of content across Disney+ including Star Wars and Marvel title, the streamer has officially revealed that The Mandalorian is its most-watched original series to date — as confirmed by Disney's recent third-quarter investors’ presentation.
This groundbreaking show, which debuted in November 2019 alongside the streaming platform's launch, has enjoyed immense popularity, paving the way for multiple seasons and various spinoffs, including The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew. And as a result of its long-term popularity with audiences, it was eventually confirmed that a film titled The Mandalorian and Grogu is slated for release in 2026, further expanding the beloved universe. Outside of its exciting Mandalorian success story reveal, the presentation also noted that the five Star Wars films released from 2015 to 2019 brought in a collective global box office gross exceeding $6 billion, with annual retail sales surpassing $1 billion. This can only suggest that the studio is eager to utilize its now-popular characters to continue the franchise’s big-screen winning streak.
As of now, plot details surrounding The Mandalorian and Grogu remain scarce, though the upcoming film is rumored to center around a new adventure for the unlikely duo as they confront the Imperial Remnant. But regardless of what the quest entails, there’s a good chance that Star Wars fans will gladly follow.
