Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 Teaser Warps Us Back to the Beloved Series
Paramount+ released the first official teaser trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3, offering fans a glimpse into the upcoming adventures of Captain Christopher Pike and the U.S.S. Enterprise crew.
Cast and Plot Details
The 64-second clip, unveiled alongside news of the season’s summer 2025 premiere, showcases a bold mix of classic Star Trek exploration and unexpected genre twists, setting the stage for a highly anticipated return. Following the Season 2 cliffhanger involving a Gorn attack, the trailer hints at both resolution and fresh challenges for the prequel series, which tracks the Enterprise a decade before Star Trek: The Original Series.
The teaser highlights several episodic concepts, including a murder mystery featuring the crew in 1930s-style attire, a nod to the 1960s aesthetics of the original Star Trek with Paul Wesley’s James T. Kirk in command, and a scene where Carol Kane’s Pelia hooks the ship up to vintage rotary phones. Action sequences also feature prominently, with glimpses of the ongoing Gorn conflict from Season 2’s finale, “Hegemony,” where Captain Pike faced an impossible choice between retreat and rescue. Anson Mount leads the returning cast as Pike, joined by Rebecca Romijn as Number One, Ethan Peck as Spock, Jess Bush as Nurse Chapel, Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh, Celia Rose Gooding as Uhura, Melissa Navia as Ortegas, and Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga. Martin Quinn’s Scotty, introduced in Season 2, is now a series regular.
Guest stars add intrigue, with Rhys Darby and Patton Oswalt confirmed for the season, though their roles remain undisclosed. Cillian O’Sullivan recurs as Dr. Roger Korby, a legacy character from The Original Series, while Wesley and Melanie Scrofano reprise Kirk and Captain Marie Batel, respectively. Filming for the season, delayed by the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, ran from December 2023 to June 2024 in Toronto—and fortunately, Paramount+ has already renewed the series for a fourth season, with production starting in spring 2025.
