The new Five Nights at Freddy’s movie is officially in full promo mode. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, the sequel to Blumhouse and Universal’s 2023 hit adaptation of the game series, dropped a second trailer online today, offering audiences the latest look at the highly anticipated horror genre event.

This time around, the film is once again directed by Emma Tammi, from a script by game creator Scott Cawthon, with Blumhouse Productions and Scott Cawthon Productions producing for Universal Pictures. In terms of plot, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is set one year after the events of the first movie. When Abby Schmidt (Piper Rubio) sneaks out to Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza to reconnect with the animatronics she once considered her friends, it triggers a new chain of hauntings that digs into the restaurant’s true origins and the history of Freddy Fazbear’s Entertainment.

Josh Hutcherson reprises his role as former security guard Mike Schmidt, alongside Elizabeth Lail as Vanessa and Matthew Lillard as William Afton. New cast members include Skeet Ulrich, Wayne Knight, Mckenna Grace, Teo Briones, and Freddy Carter, with Kellen Goff, Megan Fox, and Matthew “MatPat” Patrick voicing Toy Freddy, Toy Chica and Toy Bonnie respectively.

Today’s trailer expands on footage from earlier teasers, emphasizing recurring nightmares and lingering trauma around Freddy’s rather than simply repeating the first film’s setup. New scenes highlight Vanessa’s disturbed dreams, Abby’s secret late-night visits, and broader glimpses of Springtrap’s past. The spot also offers the clearest look yet at Ulrich’s character, framed as a father whose daughter disappeared years before Mike’s brother, and who believes Afton is responsible.

Universal and Blumhouse are keeping this installment theatrical-only at launch, a departure from the first film’s day-and-date streaming strategy—and the movie is slated to open in theaters on December 5, 2025.
