Paramount Pictures is pulling back the curtain on Edgar Wright’s The Running Man with a new behind-the-scenes featurette titled “Directing The Running Man,” giving fans an early look at how the filmmaker and his cast are bringing Stephen King’s dystopian game show nightmare into 2025.
The video specifically spotlights Wright alongside stars Glen Powell, Colman Domingo, and Josh Brolin as they walk through the film’s scale, backstory, tone, and stunt-heavy action—with plenty of fun moments to look forward to.

Set in a near-future society where The Running Man is the top-rated television show, the film follows contestants known as Runners who must survive thirty days while being hunted by professional assassins, every move streamed for a bloodthirsty audience. Powell’s Ben signs up in a last-ditch bid to save his sick daughter, only to become a fan favorite whose defiance turns him into a threat to the system that exploits him.
The new film is a fresh adaptation of King’s 1982 novel, previously brought to the screen in the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger cult classic. Wright and co-writer Michael Bacall have described this version as a more faithful spin on the book, steering closer to its sense of paranoia, class anger, and road-movie intensity while still embracing the showman flair that defines Wright’s work.
The cast is stacked beyond Powell, Domingo, and Brolin. The ensemble also includes William H Macy, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, Sean Hayes, Katy O’Brian, and more, with producers Simon Kinberg, Nira Park, and Wright backing the project for Kinberg Genre and Complete Fiction. Steven Price reunites with Wright for the score, and Industrial Light and Magic handles visual effects.
The Running Man officially opens in theaters on November 14, 2025, playing in standard formats as well as Dolby Cinema, 4DX, premium large formats, and IMAX, positioning the film as one of the year’s big event thrillers and a major new chapter in the ongoing wave of Stephen King adaptations.
