28 Years Later Drops a Chilling First Trailer

The highly anticipated sequel to the post-apocalyptic horror film 28 Days Later, titled 28 Years Later, has finally released its first trailer, and it promises to be as gripping and intense as its predecessors — or maybe even more.

The trailer for 28 Years Later offers a haunting glimpse into a world ravaged by the rage virus nearly three decades after the initial outbreak. The eerie, deserted streets, decaying cityscapes, and desolate depictions of nature are punctuated by flashes of violent encounters and underlying horrors. The trailer highlights the film's return to the franchise’s dark tone and intense action sequences, while also hinting at deeper emotional and psychological themes. Furthermore, the brief glimpses of cinematography already capture the bleak and hopeless environment, with stunning visuals that convey the devastation and chaos that the virus has wrought.

Plot Details

Set 28 years after the events of 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, the story picks up in a world where the rage virus has continued to spread, decimating the global population and leaving civilization in ruins. Humanity is on the brink of extinction, and the survivors are scattered and struggling to stay alive in a hostile and unforgiving landscape.

The plot appears to primarily follow a new group of characters, including some who have been directly affected by the original outbreak. And from the sequences shown, these survivors must navigate the dangerous and unpredictable world, presumably facing not only the infected but also other groups of humans who pose their own threats.

Cast

28 Years Later boasts an impressive cast that includes both returning and new faces. Leading the ensemble is Jodie Comer, known for her roles in Killing Eve and Free Guy. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, recognized for his performances in Kick-Ass and Godzilla (2014), joins the cast as a key survivor battling the horrors of the post-apocalyptic world.

Jack O'Connell, famous for his roles in Unbroken and Skins, plays another pivotal character, alongside the legendary Ralph Fiennes, with a career spanning decades and countless iconic roles, who lends his gravitas to the film in an unspecified role.

As of now, 28 Years Later is poised to become a thrilling and thought-provoking addition to the franchise, delivering the same heart-stopping terror and poignant storytelling that made its predecessors cult classics.

28 Years Later arrives in theaters on June 20, 2025.
