From the ashes of PLUMA, EVAN emerges as an artist reborn, charting a bold new sonic path. Once known for melodic rap and raw, emotionally charged lyrics, EVAN has now opted to pursue a vibrant mix of Alternative Pop, Electro Pop, and Rock soundscapes—culminating in a reinvention that accurately reflects his evolving identity.
EVAN’s current music offerings draw on the bright, nostalgic tones of 2000s and 2010s pop, layered with crisp, modern production. The result is a sound that’s instantly recognizable yet tailored to his unique style, balancing comfort with innovation. His latest single, “Star Below,” particularly aims to capture a spark of connection between artist and audience, ushering in this new chapter with clear purpose to embrace his longtime supporters. Though, ultimately, having been shaped by past collaborations with artists like HyunA and GEMINI, EVAN approaches this recalibration by honoring the roots that ground him while chasing new horizons.
Now, the multi-faceted artist is opening up to us about the vision fueling this dynamic shift.
Your artistic transition into EVAN marks a significant shift from your previous work as PLUMA. What sparked this reinvention, and how does this new chapter represent your artistic growth?
EVAN: I spent time experimenting with various types of music, and I began to find what I truly like and enjoy. So I think EVAN is more "me" than ever before.
You've moved from melodic rap to a blend of Alternative Pop, Electro Pop, and Rock. What inspired this genre evolution, and how do you feel it better reflects your current identity as an artist?
EVAN: I have looked up to many popstars and bands since I was a kid. Justin Bieber, One Direction, Skrillex, Coldplay, Maroon 5, Oasis, Green Day, and the list goes on and on. Also, Brit-pop bands, too! I blended all these influences together in my music. creating a special taste!
AT AREA emphasizes 'differentiation in both style and sound.' How has being part of this label influenced your creative process and the direction of your music?
EVAN: Groovyroom has always been my mentor and teacher since I joined AT AREA. I've learned a lot from them music-wise and life too, so joining AT AREA has been a positive change for me in many ways!
You've previously mentioned influences from the 2000s and 2010s pop. How do you balance that nostalgic essence with the modern production techniques you employ?
EVAN: Music from those eras had such a unique character, and that really influences how I produce. I like combining live instruments—like drums and guitar—with electronic elements to create a sound that feels both nostalgic and modern. For example, in my song “Star Below,” I used a vocoder to bring in that retro-futuristic touch!
Your songwriting credits are incredibly diverse, ranging from GroovyRoom to HyunA and GEMINI. How does your approach to songwriting differ when working with such varied artists?
EVAN: Producing and songwriting for many artists has been a very interesting experience for me. It exposed me to many types of music that I've never heard before, and a chance to make my own! I saw different perspectives of other artists’ workflow, which helped me find my own too!
What do you hope listeners will take away from “Star Below”, and how does it set the tone for your future work under the EVAN moniker?
EVAN: I truly believe everyone’s a star—not just the person on stage. We all have something special that makes us shine in our own way. Through my music, I hope people can reconnect with their own light and feel a sense of nostalgia. To me, nostalgia is such a beautiful feeling—not about regret or sadness, but a warm longing for moments that felt full of light.
What can you tease about the next chapter? Any styles, collabs, or themes you’re eager to share with fans in the coming months?
EVAN: What I can share is that the next project is already complete—and the video has already been shot, which makes it feel even more real. I’ve been collaborating a lot behind the scenes, especially on the production side, and that’s brought so much new energy into the music. This next chapter feels honest, exciting, and a bit of a step forward for me. I can’t wait to finally share it with everyone.
