PlayStation Reveals Until Dawn 2 With First Trailer and New Horror Story

PlayStation has officially revealed Until Dawn 2, bringing the beloved horror franchise back with a new sequel for PlayStation 5. The game was announced during the June 2026 State of Play presentation, where Sony also debuted the first trailer and confirmed that the next chapter is currently set to launch in 2027.

Developed by Firesprite Games, Until Dawn 2 is being positioned as a standalone experience rather than a direct continuation built around the original cast. The sequel will introduce a brand-new group of characters, a new setting, and a fresh story while keeping the core identity that made the 2015 game so memorable: difficult choices, shifting relationships, and the possibility that every decision could determine who lives long enough to see morning.

A New Group Faces a New Nightmare

This time, the story follows a crew of ghost hunters behind a popular paranormal channel called Dead True. Their reputation, however, is not exactly built on authentic supernatural encounters. According to Firesprite, the crew has become known for staged scares, but that changes when they are sent to an abandoned tropical island for their first fully funded episode after signing a deal with a major TV network.

At first glance, the setup gives the sequel a different flavor from the cool-toned original mountain-lodge nightmare. The island setting brings plenty of sun, sand, buried secrets, and messy character drama to the surface before (and even after) the horror fully takes over. Beneath the location’s exterior, the game is also teasing something much older and more dangerous, with the island hiding centuries-old secrets tied to vengeance.

The Butterfly Effect Returns

While Until Dawn 2 is moving into a new world, Firesprite is clearly keeping the franchise’s choice-driven structure intact. The studio teased that player decisions will once again shape the story, including who survives and who falls victim. Relationship management will also play a major role, with some branches changing depending on where characters stand with each other.

That focus should feel familiar to fans of the original. Until Dawn became known for turning small decisions into major consequences, and the sequel appears to be expanding that idea through both dramatic choices and smaller character moments. The announcement also confirmed the return of Dr. Hill, once again played by Peter Stormare, adding a direct piece of connective tissue between the original game and this new story.

With Until Dawn 2, PlayStation is giving the series a bigger return than a simple revisit. The new trailer introduces a sequel that looks ready to keep the franchise’s cinematic horror roots while shifting the danger to a new location, a new cast, and a nightmare built for the influencer-era hunger to be watched.
