Overwatch Reveals Anran’s Updated Design

When Overwatch introduced Anran in Season 1: The Reign of Talon this past February, she quickly became one of the game’s most talked-about new heroes. The 22-year-old Damage character, an elite graduate of Wuxing University’s Fire College and the older sister of Wuyang, arrived with a fast, fire-based kit and a commanding presence in the game’s lore. But almost immediately, conversation around Anran extended beyond her abilities and onto her in-game appearance. Now, Blizzard is rolling out an updated design that brings her closer to the version many players felt they expected.

When Can You See the New Anran?

The refresh will officially go live with Season 2 on April 14. In a recent update, game director Aaron Keller said the team adjusted Anran’s eyes, eyebrows, mouth, and posture to better reflect the personality at the core of the character. The goal was to move away from a softer, more playful look and toward something that feels more mature, confident, and natural for a hero described as determined and fiercely self-assured.

That also makes the change feel notable beyond one character model. Anran’s core design remains intact, but the revision shows Blizzard responding to player feedback in a way that strengthens the character instead of flattening her. And, in a game where visual identity matters as much as gameplay fantasy, that kind of course correction goes a long way. With Season 2 around the corner, Anran now looks far more in step with the role she is meant to fill on the roster.
