Set in 1603, over 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei introduces Atsu, a female warrior voiced by Erika Ishii (Apex Legends). The trailer opens in Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido), a lawless region of sprawling grasslands, snowy tundras, and Mount Yōtei’s towering presence. A haunting voiceover narrates Atsu’s tragic past: sixteen years ago, the Yōtei Six, a gang of outlaws, killed her family and left her for dead, pinned to a burning ginkgo tree. Now, armed with the same katana used against her, Atsu hunts the gang—named The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and Lord Saito—for vengeance.

The three-minute trailer showcases cinematic glimpses of Atsu’s journey, blending breathtaking open-world landscapes with intense action. Players will explore vibrant fields, icy ridges, and lush forests, enhanced by the PS5’s capabilities, including massive sightlines, auroras, and dynamic wind effects on vegetation. New weapons like dual katanas, an ōdachi, a kusarigama, and matchlock firearms appear, reflecting the Edo period’s evolving warfare. A shamisen, a traditional Japanese lute, and a wolf companion add unique flavor to Atsu’s arsenal and story. The trailer also hints at new mechanics, such as a feature letting players glimpse Atsu’s past, deepening her “underdog vengeance” narrative.

Sucker Punch emphasizes innovation while retaining the series’ core: open-world exploration, samurai combat, and feudal Japan’s beauty. Pre-orders open May 2, 2025, with a Collector’s Edition featuring a replica Ghost mask, Atsu’s sash, and a papercraft ginkgo tree. Fans across social media basically erupted with excitement, calling the trailer “epic” and praising Atsu’s design.

So, as of now, Ghost of Yōtei promises a fresh yet familiar adventure, poised to be a 2025 highlight. Watch the trailer below.
