Noriko Kihara's Even If There's No Rainbow Tomorrow (Ashita Niji ga Denakutemo) is a fluid, open-minded manga that explores themes of loneliness, unexpected connection, and the search for meaning in everyday interactions. Here’s why we’ve come to sincerely appreciate the new KUMA release.

Plot

Whip runs a drag bar in Tokyo, where they interact with some of the most interesting people in society. However, outside of work, Whip's days are often spent idly chatting via a phone app with a user named "Insomniac Salaryman." Their conversations are simple, often consisting of grumbling about their day-to-day lives.

As Whip develops light romantic feelings for this person they've never met, they dismiss it as a romance that will never happen. However, that’s obviously not entirely true… And during this journey of self-discovery, the story delves into the complexities of modern relationships and the human need for connection, highlighting the emotional journey of Whip as they navigate their feelings and interactions.

Characters

The central characters in Even If There's No Rainbow Tomorrow are Whip and who we’ll just refer to as "Insomniac Salaryman." The pair initially bond under anonymity, finding solace in their virtual conversations. However, they struggle to overcome physical expectations, preconceived notions, and the challenges of finally meeting in person.

Despite these realistic obstacles, they eventually prove that they have what it takes to grow together. Whip's character is well-developed, showcasing their vulnerability and strength as they navigate their emotions and relationships.
