New ‘Super Mario’ Movie Trailer Sets Up a Bigger Cosmic Adventure
Nintendo and Illumination have released the final trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, offering the clearest look yet at the next animated chapter for Mario and company ahead of its theatrical debut on April 1, 2026.
The trailer premiered during a Nintendo Direct presentation on March 10, with Universal set to distribute the film worldwide. And this time around, the sequel is expanding well beyond the Mushroom Kingdom. According to Nintendo’s official synopsis, Mario and Luigi are now living in their new home and helping Princess Peach while Bowser has been reduced in size and imprisoned. The story kicks into motion when Peach’s birthday party leads to a galaxy-spanning mission, sending the brothers into space to stop Bowser Jr. and save Rosalina. The trailer also places a major spotlight on Yoshi, one of the sequel’s most anticipated additions.
The returning voice cast includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad. New additions include Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Donald Glover as Yoshi, Brie Larson as Rosalina, Issa Rae as Honey Queen, and Luis Guzmán as Wart. Behind the scenes, returning filmmakers Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are directing from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel, with Brian Tyler back to compose the score.
The sequel arrives with significant momentum. The Super Mario Bros. Movie became a global box office phenomenon in 2023, earning more than $1.36 billion worldwide, including about $574.9 million domestically and roughly $785.9 million internationally. With that kind of commercial history behind it, the new trailer makes clear that Nintendo and Illumination are aiming even bigger for Mario’s return to theaters.
