Marvel Studios Begins to Develop its First MCU X-Men Film
Marvel Studios is finally picking up the pace on its live-action X-Men movie (as first reported by Deadline), setting the stage for a fresh take on the beloved mutant superhero team — with screenwriter Michael Lesslie, known for his work on Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes, currently in negotiations to pen the script. And of course, Marvel Studios President and official content curator Kevin Feige will oversee the film as the producer.
Since Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019, followers of the X-Men franchise have eagerly awaited news of a new installment after recent traction in titles like X-Men ‘97, Deadpool & Wolverine, and even The Marvels. However, considering that the X-Men universe, (boasting seven successful films and a lucrative Wolverine spinoff series of its own), has cemented its place as one of Fox's most esteemed Marvel properties over the course of two separate film series, its popularity has likely contributed to the studio’s decision to take things slow.
As of now, there hasn’t been any news on characters, casting, or anything remotely tangible just yet — but it would be fair to say that fans deserve a few of the classic staples like Storm, Jean Grey, and Cyclops to acknowledge the influential status of the core X-Men team. Regardless of the official lineup, Marvel and X-Men enthusiasts can assuredly anticipate a fresh chapter in the mutant saga that’s going to change the game for the MCU.
