Friday the 13th Franchise Gets Revamped by Horror, Inc.

After years of franchise purgatory (due to extensive disputes over rights and legalities) the instantly recognizable Friday the 13th franchise has finally found a stable home — and in the near future, we’ll be getting to witness the much-needed resurgence of Jason Voorhees. However, how that will play out remains to be seen.

What we do know is that Horror, Inc. (who now owns the Friday the 13th IP) has unveiled a new site that labels the franchise as the “Jason Universe,” which promises a “new era” for Jason, offering fans an official spot to stay informed about their next moves. And with a popular video game that was forced to dissolve, a canceled prequel series, and several shelved films, there’s a lot of anticipation about what the future holds for Friday the 13th.

In a statement to IGN, Robert Barsamian, President of Horror, Inc. promises more exciting announcements to come, divulging, “For decades, Jason shocked and thrilled audiences who kept coming back for more. We’re excited to work with Victor Miller and Marc Toberoff on new projects we’ll announce in the coming months.” Robbie Barsamian, VP of Horror, Inc. additionally tells the publication, “We’re focused on honoring the legacy while elevating the fan experience and appealing to today’s horror audiences as we develop new ways to watch, interact, and engage with the Jason Universe.”

Considering how long the franchise has been forced to lie dormant — it seems highly probable that the company is just as eager to get the ball rolling. But regardless of the expected timeline or planned content, the fact that we’re getting something is enough to keep us invested.
