Kingdom Hearts IV Returns With New Trailer and Switch 2 Update

Kingdom Hearts fans finally have something new to hold onto. Square Enix brought the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts IV back into the spotlight during the latest Nintendo Direct, revealing a new teaser for the next mainline entry in the beloved Disney and Square Enix action RPG series.

The game will once again follow Sora, with the new footage placing attention on Quadratum, the mysterious city that appears to be central to the franchise’s next era. While Square Enix has not announced a release date, Kingdom Hearts IV is currently planned for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC at launch.

For Nintendo fans, the update marks a major addition to the Switch 2 lineup. The new teaser offers another look at the characters Sora will encounter, along with the new powers expected to shape his next chapter.

A New Chapter for Sora and the Series

The reveal is especially notable because Kingdom Hearts IV has been largely quiet since its original announcement in 2022. As the next numbered entry, the game is set to move the series forward after Kingdom Hearts III and continue building out a new phase of the story. The latest footage still keeps much of the plot under wraps, but its focus on Quadratum suggests a different visual mood and a fresh direction for the franchise.

Square Enix is also making it easier for players to catch up before Sora’s next adventure. Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on October 8, bringing together Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind. A demo for Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind is also available on Nintendo eShop, giving new players a chance to sample the series before the collection arrives.
