Everything We Know About Scream 7

The wait is finally over for horror fans as the highly anticipated Scream 7 (from Spyglass Media Group and Paramount Pictures) has officially been given a release date, a fan-favorite lead, and a deserving director.

Here’s what we currently know about the next chapter of the influential slasher franchise.

Scream (2022) | Spyglass Media Group and Paramount Pictures

Neve Campbell Returns as Sidney Prescott

Neve Campbell, the original face of the franchise, is confirmed to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott in the upcoming seventh installment after her absence from Scream VI and a limited role in Scream (2022). Campbell’s return marks a significant moment for the series, as this will be the first Sidney-focused film since Scream 4, promising more on Sidney’s timeless story.

While other cast members are yet to be announced, Campbell’s involvement alone has generated considerable buzz and anticipation, opening the door for Sidney’s family, friends, and potentially, a few familiar faces.

With Scream 7 promising to bring Sidney back to the forefront, the film series is also sensibly pivoting back to its roots, centering on Sidney’s battle against Ghostface (and the looming dangers of trauma). However, while this return to form is expected to resonate with long-time fans — a Sidney-centric story decades later has the ability introduce Sidney’s enduring legacy to a new generation.

As the release date approaches (well, kind of), fans can look forward to more updates on the cast and plot details in the coming months. For now, the confirmation of Neve Campbell’s return and the official release date are enough to reignite the excitement for this beloved horror series.

Scream VI (2023) | Spyglass Media Group and Paramount Pictures

Original Scream Writer Kevin Williamson will Direct Scream 7

In a thrilling turn of events, Kevin Williamson, the original writer behind the Scream franchise (and most of the entries), is set to direct Scream 7. Williamson, who penned the scripts for the first, second, and fourth films, is stepping into the director’s chair for the first time in the series after proving his capabilities with the strong COVID-era slasher Sick. His return is expected to bring a fresh yet nostalgic touch to the film, aligning with the franchise’s roots while introducing new elements to captivate both old and new fans.

Williamson’s involvement is also particularly exciting given his deep understanding of the characters and the lore of the Scream universe. And due to his established connection to original Scream 1-4 filmmaker Wes Craven, Williamson’s direction is anticipated to bring a unique blend of suspense, horror, and meta-commentary that the series is widely known for.

Scream 7 Hits Theaters in 2026

The decision to release Scream 7 in February of 2026 feels like a perfect opportunity for the franchise. Historically, the Scream franchise has performed well with early-year releases, like Scream (2022), which premiered in January and grossed over $140 million worldwide. Similarly, Scream VI was released in March and also saw significant box office success as the second-highest box office performance of the film series.

Releasing in that specific season positions the film to capitalize on a less crowded genre market (though, it could easily contend with other Halloween favorites if they ever decide to go that route), allowing it to likely dominate the box office and attract a wide audience.

As the release date of February 27, 2026, approaches, fans can look forward to more updates and revelations about the film. Though, for now, the return of Campbell and the involvement of Williamson are enough to keep the excitement alive for this beloved horror franchise.
