The Mandalorian & Grogu Trailer: First Look at Star Wars' 2026 Movie
Disney and Lucasfilm have released the first teaser for The Mandalorian & Grogu, previewing Din Djarin and Grogu’s next chapter on the big screen. And thankfully, we won’t be waiting very long, because the film (directed by Jon Favreau) opens in theaters on May 22, 2026, marking Star Wars’ return to theaters for the first time since 2019.
The trailer plants the story squarely in the ongoing New Republic era, after the fall of the Empire. That also lines up with the series’ established timeline and the official synopsis: with Imperial warlords scattered and order still fragile, the New Republic enlists the “legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter” and his apprentice to help protect what the Rebellion won. In other words, expect frontier-style missions that bump into the lingering machinery of the Empire, scaled up for cinemas.
Visually, the teaser leans into widescreen pulp with speeder runs through canyon passes, hulking war machines on the horizon, and that tactile, hand-scuffed look that made the show a breakout hit. Din moves with gunslinger reflexes; Grogu lightens the tension with quick, precise Force beats. Though overall, the pair still appears to have one of the best on-screen dynamics in the Star Wars franchise.
As far as the cast goes, Sigourney Weaver is among the newcomers (with the trailer previewing her lighthearted encounter with Grogu), and a brief shot of what many are assuming is Jeremy Allen White’s Rotta the Hutt, potentially extending the franchise’s criminal underworld vein.
With the movie officially dated, the future is up to the box office—though history suggests Grogu won’t be leaving the spotlight anytime soon. Trailer below.
