Sony Announces Spider-Man: Brand New Day with a 2026 Release
Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios unveiled the title for the fourth Tom Holland-led Spider-Man film at CinemaCon: Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026, this announcement has reignited excitement for the web-slinger’s next chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Following the multiversal chaos of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), which grossed over $1.9 billion globally, the new film promises a fresh start for Peter Parker. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Spider-Man: Brand New Day will kick off a new trilogy for Holland’s Spider-Man.
The title nods to a controversial 2008 comic arc where Peter’s life resets after a deal with Mephisto erases his marriage to Mary Jane and the world’s knowledge of his identity—a plot point echoing Spider-Man: No Way Home’s dramatic ending, where Doctor Strange’s spell made everyone forget Peter Parker. While the MCU often adapts comic titles loosely, fans speculate this could mean a street-level story, possibly introducing characters like Harry Osborn or a villain like Mister Negative, both tied to the “Brand New Day” comics.
Holland, who confirmed production begins summer 2025, called it “a fresh start” in a CinemaCon video message, hinting at Peter navigating a world where he’s a stranger. Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) is the only other confirmed cast member in an undisclosed role—however, rumors swirl she could be Mary Jane Watson, Jean Grey, or even Black Cat—adding intrigue to Peter’s new supporting circle.
Of course, Zendaya is also expected to return as MJ, though her role may evolve given the memory wipe. But who knows what to expect—we’ll just have to wait and see as more details are announced in the coming months.
