Netflix Releases a Moody New Glimpse at Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein finally has a full trailer, and it positions the film as a pulsing, gothic character study more than a monster romp. The logline stays true to Mary Shelley’s classic—brilliant scientist, doomed creation—but del Toro’s spin foregrounds the creature’s point of view, with Jacob Elordi voicing and embodying the role opposite Oscar Isaac’s Victor and Mia Goth’s Elizabeth. The film opens in select theaters October 17, 2025, before streaming on Netflix November 7, 2025.

The look is unmistakably del Toro with candlelit interiors, wintry exteriors, and tactile, old-world craft. Longtime collaborators Dan Laustsen (cinematography) and Alexandre Desplat (score) are aboard, which tracks with the trailer’s operatic mood and the film’s early festival buzz.

Beyond the central trio, Christoph Waltz appears in a newly created role, with Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lars Mikkelsen, Christian Convery, and Charles Dance rounding out the ensemble—names the new spot flashes without giving away too much plot. Del Toro’s longtime creature partner Mike Hill designed the monster, steering away from the bolt-neck caricature toward something alabaster, scarred, and unnervingly striking (an image the trailer hints at without overexplaining).

With that cast, that design pedigree, and del Toro steering the ship, Frankenstein looks set to be a prestige gothic horror event—and a conversation piece well past Halloween.
