Insidious: Out of the Further Gets a Chilling First Look at CinemaCon
The Insidious franchise is officially back. Sony unveiled the first trailer for Insidious: Out of the Further during its CinemaCon presentation on April 13, giving horror fans an early look at the series’ sixth installment ahead of its August 21 theatrical release.
Rather than circling back to the Lambert family again, the new film appears to shift its focus to a different household and a new central figure. More specifically, Amelia Eve stars as Gemma, a young mother raising her daughter in the home where she grew up. From the trailer and early plot details, the story is now built around a major twist on the franchise’s familiar supernatural rules: Gemma can travel into The Further, but she can also bring what lives there back into the real world.
What the trailer reveals
The trailer seems less interested in spelling out every detail than in reestablishing the atmosphere that made Insidious work in the first place. There are flashes of domestic unease, child-centered horror, and the abrupt supernatural imagery that has long defined the franchise—which is already rather promising to see.
But at the same time, Out of the Further appears to be introducing new threats of its own, suggesting this chapter is more focused on expanding the series’ core ideas than overhauling them. And that approach makes sense for a franchise with an established mythology.
Who is involved this time
Alongside Amelia Eve, the film stars Brandon Perea, with Lin Shaye returning as Elise Rainier. Jacob Chase wrote and directed the film, positioning it as the next chapter after Insidious: The Red Door.
At this stage, the trailer is doing exactly what it needs to do: reintroducing the world of Insidious, establishing a fresh hook, and giving the franchise a clear path forward this summer.
