Marvel Unveils a New Mystique Comic Coming This Fall

This October, fans of the X-Men are in for a treat as Mystique takes the spotlight in a new solo series set in the upcoming ‘From the Ashes era.’

Written and illustrated by the talented Declan Shalvey, known for his work on titles like Moon Knight and Dead Man Logan, Marvel’s upcoming title MYSTIQUE promises to delve into the titular character’s complex relationships within the mutant world, including her reunion with wife Destiny and her current connections to her children (and X-Men staples) Rogue and Nightcrawler — but as the mutant nation faces turmoil, Mystique must once again unleash her brutal tactics to safeguard her fellow mutants.

Along with the MYSTIQUE announcement via Marvel, it’s also currently being teased that Mystique's intricate web of actions will lead to another high-stakes game of deception and pursuit — especially considering the fact that she’s proven to be a crucial character in the current mutant landscape, revolving around themes of identity, trust, and power dynamics.

In a press release from Marvel, Shalvey expressed his excitement about working on such a multifaceted character, emphasizing the privilege of reinventing Mystique for this standalone series. "Mystique is hands down one of the most compelling characters to come from the Marvel Universe," Shalvey notes before adding, “To have an opportunity to put my own stamp on such an iconic character and showcase her in a series of her own is a unique privilege.”

Now that Marvel and Shalvey have teased readers with enough to illicit excitement about the announcement of MYSTIQUE (toted as a five-issue run), we just have to wait a little bit longer until it drops this October.
