Crystal Lake Trailer Revisits the Horror That Started Friday the 13th
Camp Crystal Lake is preparing to welcome visitors again, and the Voorhees family has unfinished business. Peacock has released the official trailer for Crystal Lake, the Friday the 13th prequel starring Linda Cardellini as Pam Voorhees. Premiering October 15, the A24 series revisits the tragedy behind the franchise’s original killer, tracing the aftermath of her son Jason’s drowning and the questions surrounding her own past.

The trailer introduces Pam through her work at Camp Crystal Lake before following her into bloodier territory, with her belief that Jason may still be alive driving her increasingly desperate behavior. According to Peacock’s official synopsis, almost a year has passed since his drowning in the town lake, and the single mother is struggling to move forward when two strangers arrive at her door.
Their questions about her history set off a disturbing chain of events, leaving the community wondering how well they know her. That investigation gives the series room to explore Pam’s life before the loss that defined her, building a mystery around a character whose place in horror history is already assured.
Betsy Palmer originated the role in the 1980 film, making Pam’s fierce attachment to her son central to its deadly reveal. Cardellini now has a full season to explore that relationship, with Callum Vinson playing young Jason. William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom also star as the series expands its attention to the people living around the infamous camp.
A Bloody Mystery With ’70s Thriller Influences
The community surrounding Pam is also central to creator, writer and showrunner Brad Caleb Kane’s approach. Kane, whose credits include It: Welcome to Derry, has cited the paranoia of 1970s thrillers as a major influence, drawing on the era’s distrust of institutions and changing attitudes toward women.
Those interests suggest a story concerned with how suspicion takes hold around Pam, while the trailer offers a taste of the violence to come. Kane has also promised substantial bloodshed and inventive deaths, describing the murders as an extension of the characters and their circumstances. And, for a franchise with such a formidable body count, there is plenty of history to live up to.
Michael Lennox directs the opening three episodes, followed by Celine Held and Logan George on episodes four through six, with Quyen Tran handling the final two. All eight hour-long installments arrive together on Peacock on Thursday, October 15, bringing a full season of summer-camp horror to the Halloween calendar.
