Ryan Murphy Confirms AHS 13 Will Connect Every Season
Ryan Murphy has clarified the scope of American Horror Story Season 13, confirming that the upcoming installment will reach far beyond its heavily teased return to Coven. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, the co-creator revealed that viewers should expect a crossover drawing from the anthology’s complete history, bringing characters from across the franchise into the same conflict.
“Everybody thinks it’s a Coven season, and it’s not. It’s all the seasons,” Murphy explained. The clarification follows months of production images showing Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts, Frances Conroy, Gabourey Sidibe, and Leslie Grossman returning to witch-related roles, which initially made a direct continuation of that storyline appear to be the season’s primary direction.
American Horror Story Season 13 Will Revive Multiple Characters
Murphy also confirmed that several returning performers will portray multiple characters from across the series. Sarah Paulson is expected to appear in six or seven roles, while Evan Peters will play five. Emma Roberts and Kathy Bates are similarly set to reprise multiple characters from their respective AHS histories. Much to our excitement, Jessica Lange will return as all four of her distinct characters: Constance Langdon from Murder House, Sister Jude Martin from Asylum, Fiona Goode from Coven, and Elsa Mars from Freak Show.
Although Murphy did not reveal every character included in the season’s all-star ensemble, the format positions Season 13 as the franchise’s most expansive crossover yet. Its returning figures will reportedly unite to confront “the ultimate evil,” building on the interconnected mythology established in Apocalypse, which brought Coven, Murder House, and Hotel into the same narrative.
American Horror Story: 13 premieres September 24 on FX and will be available to stream on Hulu.
