Lady Gaga Announces Her New Joker Companion Album, ‘Harlequin’
Lady Gaga has once again hyped up pop music fans with the announcement of her latest album, Harlequin, set to release on September 27, 2024. This album serves as a companion piece to her highly anticipated film, Joker: Folie à Deux, where she stars alongside Joaquin Phoenix.
The album, which features 13 tracks, promises to be a musical journey that complements the dark and twisted narrative of the Joker sequel. Gaga has been teasing the album on her social media, sharing cryptic posts and snippets of new music — with one of the standout tracks titled “The Joker,” already garnering attention courtesy of a haunting clip posted on her Instagram.
In a recent interview with Vogue, Gaga expressed her excitement about her musical project, stating, "When I’m here at this studio, I’m relaxed and I am able to face my demons and what’s remarkable is… that’s the music. I’m able to hear it back.” This introspective approach is planned to be executed in the album’s composition, which promises to blend her signature pop style with the film’s gritty, noir atmosphere in an effort to forge something unique.
Joker: Folie à Deux, directed by Todd Phillips, is set to hit theaters on October 4, 2024. The film is a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Joker, which earned Phoenix an Academy Award for Best Actor. With Gaga’s involvement, the sequel is expected (and obviously for good reason) to bring a unique musical element to the franchise, further blurring the lines between cinema and music.
While it doesn’t quite count as LG7, fans have already been eagerly awaiting the release of her next project which marks Gaga’s first major project since her 2020 pandemic-era album Chromatica. Fortunately, regardless of the musical task placed in front of her — we know she’s prepared to shake things up.
