KARD’s Somin Makes Long-Awaited Solo Debut with First EP ‘Unveil’

Jeon So-min of co-ed group KARD has stepped into the solo spotlight with the release of her first EP, Unveil, which arrived on April 2, 2026, at 6 p.m. KST, officially marking her highly anticipated solo debut more than nine years after KARD’s formation in 2017. So yes, this one is definitely well-earned.

DSPMedia: Somin

The seven-track EP is led by its title track, “Backseat,” a restrained pop record built on minimal percussion, low-end bass, and clean synth layers. And because of that pared-back production, the song allows Somin’s vocals to take center stage, unfolding with a controlled, R&B-tinged delivery. The accompanying music video mirrors this refined approach, combining precise choreography with a sleek, understated visual style.

Across Unveil, Somin moves through a range of tones while keeping things grounded in a cohesive pop framework. Tracks like “Love Me Like A Fan” and “Keep It Cute” introduce a lighter, more playful side, while “Closure” leans inward, shifting the mood. Elsewhere, songs like “Got It Like That” and “Como Yo A Ti” add small stylistic variations that round out the project without pushing too far into experimentation.

The release arrives after a long stretch of anticipation, and early responses have largely centered on its consistency and clear sense of direction. Though for many, “Backseat,” in particular, stands out for its streamlined production and the way it keeps the focus on vocal presence rather than heavier layering.

Still, as a whole, Unveil sets a foundation that feels intentional without trying to say everything at once. It sketches out Somin’s solo identity in a steady way, leaving plenty of space for it to shift and expand as she continues balancing group work with her own material.
