Dropped on March 20, 2026, the track serves as the vibrant lead single from his highly anticipated album Kicking & Screaming, set to arrive on June 12 via Giant Music. This 10-track project builds upon the foundation laid by his previous release, Kicking My Feet.

The latest song first appeared as a tantalizing 'dst (outro)' snippet on the earlier project, with Ruel and collaborators revisiting the idea, transforming it into a full-fledged anthem. Co-written with Sean Douglas and produced by Joel Little, with M-Phazes adding extra production bite, "Don't Say That" perfectly captures Ruel's signature blend of soulful alternative pop and R&B—where the distinctive, emotive vocals shine over a production that delivers just the right amount of groove and bite.

Lyrically, Ruel dives headfirst into the messy realities of relationships with a fun yet relatable twist. The track nails the universal dread of impending heartbreak through clever denial and raw vulnerability. Standout lines like "Come on now, don't say that / Don't do something you can't take back" and "Get me drunk on a half-full cup / 'Cause I just don't wanna know" turn anxiety into an irresistible earworm chorus—one that's impossible not to revisit and sing along to.

So, with its catchy hooks and heartfelt honesty, "Don't Say That" definitely stands out as one of Ruel's best tracks to date, setting an exciting, emotionally charged tone for the evolving sound to come.
