Kali Uchis Returns with the Nostalgic R&B Track "Sunshine & Rain..."
Kali Uchis, the Colombian-American singer-songwriter known for her emotive genre-blending artistry, has once again captivated fans with her latest single, “Sunshine & Rain…”, which serves as the lead single for her upcoming fifth studio album, Sincerely, set to drop on May 9 via Capitol Records.
Following a whirlwind two years that saw the release of Red Moon in Venus (2023) and Orquídeas (2024), Uchis continues her prolific streak, offering a reflective and romantic soundscape that hints at an inspiring personal evolution.
“Sunshine & Rain…” arrives as a serene, soulful ballad, co-produced with Dylan Wiggins, showcasing Uchis’ signature blend of R&B, pop, and existential lyricism. The song’s chorus—“Through sunshine and rain, as seasons change / We all need somebody that makes the Earth feel heavenly”—speaks to finding joy amid life’s unpredictability, a theme Uchis has described as central to the album.
In a statement, she even called the track “an existential piece focusing on the vulnerability and romanticism of life,” reflecting her experiences during a transformative period, including her pregnancy in 2023 and the birth of her son with rapper Don Toliver. And of course, many have drawn connections to the track as a potential follow-up to her brassy R&B track “After The Storm,” given its lyrical significance.
The single also marks Uchis’ first release with Capitol Records after parting ways with Geffen, signaling a fresh chapter for the Grammy-winning artist. Already, it’s stirring buzz among her global fanbase—known affectionately as “kuchis”—who’ve followed her from the dreamy Por Vida EP in 2015 to her chart-topping Spanish-language hit “telepatía” in 2020. Recent collaborations with JENNIE on “Damn Right” and d4vd on “Crashing” kept her in the spotlight, but “Sunshine & Rain…” feels like a return to her introspective roots, with its mellow warmth and heartfelt delivery.
As Sincerely, approaches, Uchis promises her most “honest” work yet. Though with over 37 million monthly Spotify listeners and a history of pushing musical boundaries, this single had everything it needed to set the stage for what could be her most personal release to date.
