6 Groups or Bands That Deserve Revivals
I think it’s safe to say that as a society, people genuinely love the comfort associated with nostalgia in media — since there’s always a strong response to a comeback story. And while it might be easier to navigate filming schedules for movies and television series, it has proven to be a little trickier for talent within the music industry. Because, in this particular arena, there’s a lot of hands-on work, constant touring, studio sessions, label approval, and an artists’ general desire to (understandably) pursue their solo passions. We totally get it. But it doesn’t necessarily stop us from hoping that maybe — just maybe — we could get to see some exceptional reunions in the future.
Spice Girls
The sensational UK-based pop group Spice Girls became one of the most influential, commercially successful girl groups ever, having attained global acclaim throughout their run in the ‘90s. And yes, their dip into a cinematic story via Spice World is still insanely iconic decades later. After their primary dissolution, the group has briefly embarked on the occasional reunion tour, performed at the Olympics, and received album re-releases, but we’re kind of hoping for new content to celebrate their 30th anniversary with entire original lineup. Sure, the classics are fun to keep on rotation, but let’s revive that Spice Girls pop persona with a fresh new track (or even better, an album).
Oasis
We’ll say it. Oasis might just have some of the most timeless, impactful examples of music to come out of the ‘90s. If you need evidence to support that claim, just listen to a few of their beloved hits like “Wonderwall",” or “Champagne Supernova.” But you probably don’t even need to, because these songs are already loved by everyone (including you). The group’s time together came to a (highly publicized) end in the early ‘00s, with each opting for solo endeavors, but time often heals wounds — and maybe one day, the tension will cease enough for the group to take their impactful legacy back into their own hands. Let’s rewrite this ending in a slightly more optimistic tone, yeah?
Wonder Girls
The electrifying girl group Wonder Girls is widely recognized for playing a pivotal role in the evolution of Korea’s uptempo pop music scene, having helped introduce the K-pop system to Western audiences with hit after hit — along with the chance to open for the Jonas Brothers tour in the late ‘00s. After the group’s dissolution in 2017, the K-pop space has since experienced several unpredictable trends and changes with fans, but one thing that’s remained consistent is that Wonder Girls’ stellar discography still hits. Thankfully, the members have also remained close throughout the years, so we’d have to imagine it’s still a feasible dream for longtime Wonder Girls fans like ourselves.
The Verve
Two words. “Bittersweet Symphony.” Because, while it isn’t the group’s only popular track, it’s by far their biggest. As of now, the song is still regularly associated with one of the biggest cult classic teen flicks (Cruel Intentions) and the actual music video has managed to garner over a billion views on YouTube. Sure, the group didn’t exactly have the best rack record with reunions (after disagreements between members in 2007) but considering that they’ve managed once before with the popular single “Love is Noise,” perhaps they could experience a change of heart for another crack at reigniting the band’s unmatched musicality.
The White Stripes
When you think about The White Stripes, it’s hard not to immediately envision the husky, raw voice behind singer Jack White, or the resonant, pulse-pounding beats from drummer Meg White. The pair have won several Grammy awards (deserving af) and easily deserve their status as one of the most influential bands of all time. Yes, they parted ways over a decade ago, but because of their palpable skills, the duo’s legacy has ensured that there’s always going to be a space for them whether they want it or not.
Fifth Harmony
Fifth Harmony was always ahead of their time, offering incredible music and unintentional pop culture perfection. In fact, one might argue that they've given the world some of the most unreal vial content of all time (the infamous hammering a tire performance, arriving on a red carpet like this, etc.). So much to our dismay, things just haven't been the same since the group disbanded in 2017 with the release of their dynamic self-titled album. And when a group like Fifth Harmony has such powerful pop/R&B tracks in their discography like “Work From Home,” “Write On Me” and “No Way,” it’s nearly impossible to not ask for a temporary reunion. Let the world heal and bring these women together once more!
