tripleS Talks Music, Dimensions, and More

INTERVIEW

INTERVIEW ✦

Introduced to the K-pop scene in 2023, tripleS (formed by the next-gen company Modhaus) brought a revolutionary concept to the industry as a 24-member multinational girl group — with a unique vision to become the world's first decentralized idol group rotating members between the main lineup, sub-units known as Dimensions, and potentially solo endeavors commonly determined by feedback from fans.

After unveiling several impactful tracks through these enchanting Dimensions (which consistently taps into limitless pop music potential) the group has finally reached completion through the Assemble24 studio album, signaling the beginning of their innovative journey.

Having dropped their first release as 24 members, sold over 100K copies of the album, and nabbed their first win on The Show, we’re officially taking the time to chat with tripleS members Yubin, Mayu, ChaeWon, and ChaeYeon about the group’s extraordinary odyssey of music and innovation.

tripleS | Modhaus

Congratulations on the release of your debut album, ASSEMBLE24! How does it feel to finally have all 24 members come together for this bold new album?

YuBin: It took us two years to gather all 24 members, and finally being able to perform together on stage is both emotional and exciting. I think we can show even more synergy now that we are all together!

Can you share more about the concept behind ASSEMBLE24 and the message you aim to convey through the title track "Girls Never Die"?

Mayu: In this album, I believe the main message is ‘Even if you fall, get up and never give up,’ as mentioned in the lyrics of the title track. I think this is a message we can deliver even more powerfully because of our experiences. Some of our members have experience with audition programs or pursued other paths but couldn’t give up on their dreams and came this way. I also went to university, but I didn’t give up on my dream of becoming a K-pop artist and kept challenging myself until I got here, so this message especially resonates with me.

The song and music video for “Girls Never Die” feels like it might be the most ambitious project we’ve seen from tripleS so far! What are a few examples of how the production effectively showcases each member’s personality/skillset?

ChaeYeon: Given that we are a large group with 24 members, it was challenging to showcase each member’s individuality and abilities. When thinking about examples of music video scenes that effectively highlight each member, a few come to mind. First, I would mention the scenes featuring S1 SeoYeon, who symbolizes tripleS, and S24, showing them empathizing and soaring together. Additionally, YuYeon’s part, ‘Shall we try again?’ reflects her journey of overcoming adversity and not giving up, which she experienced through various audition programs. Finally, I would highlight the rebellious yet dreamy dance break parts performed by the dance members.

Your song is currently climbing the charts domestically, which is definitely something worth celebrating! What were some of your initial reactions when you realized the track was quickly resonating with listeners?

ChaeWon:  I was surprised and happy! I was glad that we could convey a positive message to the public through our song. Debuting as a K-pop artist was a dream for me… Entering the top 100 on the Melon chart was something I never anticipated. I would like to express my gratitude once again to the fans who have given us so much love and support.

With the success of your previous releases which have resulted in global attention, and even recognition at prestigious award shows, how did you plan to elevate the presence of tripleS in the K-pop industry with ASSEMBLE24?

ChaeYeon: We wanted to make the world of tripleS more recognizable to the public. With the fan participation system and the advantages of a large group that hasn’t existed before, this is the first album where all the members have finally come together. We planned to show that ‘the beginning of tripleS starts now.’

The formation of your sub-unit or ‘Dimensions’ through fan participation is a uniquely intriguing aspect of tripleS. How do these unit Dimensions contribute to the group's identity and creativity?

Mayu: Being able to show fans what they want to see through various concepts and knowing that with each album, we create more memories together with our fans makes me feel that this system is truly about creating for our fans. Because our fans make great choices, we always strive to meet their expectations and do our best until the end!

The album depicts various charms and traits of all 24 members, which must have been difficult to navigate. What was the creative process like in selecting and arranging the album tracks?

YuBin: We worked on the ASSEMBLE24 album with the intention of giving a meaningful gift to the fans who have been waiting for the complete tripleS for the last two years. Because of this, many of the tracks continue the narratives of songs from previous albums, which will deeply move those who have been on this journey with us for the past two years. The last track of the album, “Dimension,” was selected to show that this full album is not the end, but the beginning of tripleS, which will be presented in new units.

As you prepare for a new world tour, what can fans expect from your performances, and are there any specific cities or venues you are particularly excited to visit?

ChaeWon: I think you’ll be able to see performances from new units, different from the existing ones, at our next concert. Since I haven’t been on a tour yet, I’m excited about all of the world tour performances! The thought of meeting WAVs from different countries makes me very happy.
