Amid the bustling K-pop industry, where talent appears limitless, Thai singer-songwriter MINNIE of the legendary K-pop group (G)I-DLE has spent the entirety of her career honing her distinctive voice and bold artistic choices.
Now, with years of irreplaceable group experiences under her belt, MINNIE has finally taken the time to launch her first official solo endeavor (appropriately titled HER) offering the skilled singer an exciting journey led by the moody pop pre-release track "Blind Eyes Red," which introduces a new angle of her expansive artistry. Though, this compelling adventure has since been enhanced by other unique solo additions like the eccentric up-tempo title track “HER”, or the sultry, breathy-pop B-side “Cherry Sky”. Because, regardless of her versatile, pre-existing skillset, MINNIE is clearly using this first solo mini album to evolve through her personalized collection of emotive pop songs covering themes of confidence, love, pain, and everything that can spark an unforgettable era.
Following the release of the mini album, the talented (G)I-DLE group member and soloist is opening up about this evolutionary moment of her iconic career.
Congratulations on your new solo era. What initially inspired you to create the dark, moody pre-release track "Blind Eyes Red"?
MINNIE: Thank you so much. For “Blind Eyes Red”, as soon as I heard the beat, I knew it was a track I really wanted to work on! I felt like it would be a great opportunity to show my fans a side of me that’s different from what they’ve seen before!
How do you feel about the reception of "Blind Eyes Red" among your fans and peers? Is there feedback that stands out to you from someone close to you?
MINNIE: I was so happy to hear so many kind words from everyone! What stands out to me is when people around me said they could only see my back, and that reaction really stuck with me!
Can you share the story behind the concept for your music video for "Blind Eyes Red"?
MINNIE: I wanted to leave a lasting and powerful impression with the song! The track itself has such a strong and impactful presence, and I knew right from the start that I wanted it to resonate with listeners. My goal was to create something that would leave an unforgettable mark.
Regarding your album HER, is there something that you learned—about music, or yourself—while working on this new solo chapter?
MINNIE: There were a lot of opportunities because I definitely had a broader and more significant role compared to when I was part of (G)I-DLE! Everything was created based on my own decisions and intentions. I feel like I’ve explored many new and diverse musical approaches, which allowed me to learn more than ever.
From your perspective, what message does the title track “HER” convey?
MINNIE: “HER” carries the message that my nightmare is ultimately the same as my reality. Along with the message, I wanted to express a variety of different aspects of my personality and emotions through this song.
What’s the most rewarding or fulfilling aspect of this entire album process?
MINNIE: From the music to the physical album design, it felt like I was personally involved in every detail, carefully shaping each element. I had the chance to put my own touch on everything, from the sound to the visuals, and seeing it all come together gave me an immense sense of pride and accomplishment.
