Mike Glazer is Here to Entertain
Mike Glazer, a comedic powerhouse known for his quick wit, infectious charm, and unapologetic humor, has spent the past several years proving himself in the comedy scene with an extensively celebrated career that’s consistently captivating audiences (exceeding 400 million cumulative views to date). Though, sharp-wit aside, Glazer's talents extend far beyond the stage, displaying versatility as an Olympic gold medalist, popular podcast host, chef, and multifaceted collaborator who’s worked with just about everyone in the comedy world.
With plenty of prominent events to come, including an upcoming US tour and a new entertaining podcast series worth diving into, we’re taking the time to catch up with Glazer about the notion of “Exorswifting,” essential pre-show rituals and his upcoming appearance at the star-studded Netflix Is A Joke Comedy Festival! Basically, Glazer stays busy.
You have a national tour from April to May, which will basically have you traveling and performing non-stop. What should attendees expect from the Mike Glazer tour experience?
Mike Glazer: Brand new material very different from my recent YouTube special Life Rules! On this tour a man called me, “hilarious and sincere.” That felt good, and I don’t think he was on mushrooms.
On the days you’re scheduled to be on stage – how do you typically spend the hours leading up to a performance? Or in other words, what’s the Mike Glazer pre-show ritual?
Mike Glazer: Great question. First thing I do is have a strong cup of coffee and read a book - currently Chain Gang All-Stars. Then, I leave my apartment and touch grass. I’m an AMC A-Lister, and I love going to the movies in the afternoon. One time, back to back, I saw Exorcist and Taylor Swift’s Eras Movie; I know Barbenheimer (seeing Barbie and Oppenheimer) was a massive cultural touchstone, but if you have a chance to Exorswift you gotta!
Congratulations on your upcoming appearance at the Netflix Is A Joke Comedy Festival! What’s a unique aspect of a comedy-centric festival that attendees won’t get to experience anywhere else?
Mike Glazer: Thank you! Come see my Netflix show Netflix is a Joke presents: Mike Glazer on May 9th! Besides my show I’m most excited to see twins Annie and Hallie finally be reunited. Their parents are divorced, and Annie has been living in England while Hallie has been in Cali. Because they’re twins, Annie and Hallie swapped identities to give themselves a chance to spend time with the parent they've missed. If the scheme works, it might just make the family whole again. Really stoked for that. Wait — that’s the plot to The Parent Trap — nevermind.
This is obviously a huge platform that’s able to spotlight new, emerging talent, and some of the more established industry names too. With that being said, are there any people you’re particularly looking forward to seeing during the Netflix Is A Joke Comedy Festival?
Mike Glazer: Katt Williams. Seth Rogen. Future. Tyler, the Creator. Now I’m just naming my fave artists I’m gonna hang with!
You’re a total pro in the podcast world as well, with Life Rules! The Show which coincides with the release of your new comedy album. What’s one thing that draws you to the medium?
Mike Glazer: I’m a great interviewer. Listening, empathizing, and connecting is what I’m all about. The best way to do that is on my podcast. Life Rules! The Show allows me to sit across from people I adore and learn what makes them tick. Then, take those things and incorporate them into my life to make the world a better place. Nothing is more important than that. That’s why life rules.
