Lizze Broadway Discusses Her New Film Kinda Pregnant and What to Expect in Gen V Season 2
Lizze Broadway has quickly become a standout talent, captivating audiences with her impeccable comedic timing and nuanced performances—including her portrayal of Emma Meyer in the hit series Gen V (a spin-off of The Boys) where she’s organically become a breakout star in the globally celebrated franchise.
In Gen V, Broadway masterfully balances Emma's bubbly ways with her burgeoning strengths, consistently earning praise from fans and critics alike. And as a result of her skills throughout the first season, Broadway has also left audiences eagerly anticipating her return in the upcoming second season of the acclaimed series.
More recently, Broadway has taken the time to showcase her comedic range even further in the Netflix film Kinda Pregnant. This heartfelt and hilarious comedy, starring fellow comedic giants Amy Schumer and Jillian Bell, explores the apprehension and humor surrounding fertility and family planning in some of the most unpredictable ways possible. Now, Broadway is breaking down her role in Kinda Pregnant and teasing a changed Emma when Gen V returns later this year.
Kinda Pregnant explores the anxieties and humor around fitting in and forming your own family. When you initially read the script, was there anything that resonated with you about the film's take on these topics? And what do you hope audiences take away from it?
Lizze Broadway: I’m not pregnant, but I definitely connected with the feeling of trying to fit in and, at times, pretending to be someone you’re not. That’s something we all do, whether it’s fitting into the world of parenting or navigating any life phase. It’s one of the most relatable aspects of the film—the pressure to be ‘on’ all the time, even when you're not quite sure who you’re supposed to be. My hope for the audience is that parents can laugh, feel seen, and embrace the messiness of it all, while those who aren't parents can take a deep breath and give themselves some grace. You're exactly where you need to be—no need to fake it or fit into a mold. Life can be tough, but sometimes, the best thing you can do is take an hour and a half to just laugh. Laughter is, after all, one of the most healing things we’ve got. Why not take advantage of that?
What initially drew you to Kinda Pregnant? Was there anything about the character or the story that particularly intrigued you?
Lizze Broadway: I love playing a character that has zero social cues and boundaries. Felt like taking a Xanax to be honest since I'm a chronic overthinker.
As someone who’s become known for your comedic timing, what was it like working with two fellow comedic powerhouses like Amy Schumer and Jillian Bell?
Lizze Broadway: First off, thank you! I’ll admit, when I first found out I’d be working with Amy Schumer and Jillian Bell, I was absolutely starstruck. I’m talking full-on internal panic attack. I mean, these are two comedic powerhouses—how does one even exist in the same space as that energy? But honestly, these women are so talented and supportive, they made me feel safe enough to just dive in. It felt like they were my comedic ‘parents’ who handed me the markers and said, ‘Go ahead, write all over the walls.’ It was honestly the best permission to just play.
And the thing about Amy and Jillian? They love having fun. They reminded me that, no matter what, we can’t forget to enjoy the process. Amy, especially, made the set such a collaborative and warm space where the chemistry just flowed naturally. When you feel safe, you get to take risks—and that’s when the best, most fun work happens. And trust me, we had a blast.
Kinda Pregnant features a really strong ensemble cast. How did the dynamic on set contribute to the film's overall feel, and did you find yourselves improvising or riffing on the script much?
Lizze Broadway: Oh, absolutely—everyone on this cast is like family. I mean, really close family. Like, the kind of family you’d call when you need someone to help you move a couch, but also the kind who will then immediately get distracted by snacks and start a dance party in the living room. When you’ve got that kind of chemistry with your coworkers (who also happen to be your new friends), you’re down for anything. And when I say anything, I mean anything. Amy and Tyler made it feel like we were all kindergartners working on a super expensive art project—like, the kind where no one’s judging, but the supplies cost a fortune. It was a chaotic, hilarious, and wildly creative vibe.
As for improvising—oh, we riffed like nobody’s business. And the fun really begins. It was like a comedy playground, and we were all just taking turns on the swings, throwing in whatever made each other laugh. And that’s when the real magic happens, right?
Without giving away any spoilers, can you tease a favorite scene or moment from Kinda Pregnant that you're particularly excited for audiences to see?
Lizze Broadway: Sex scene. Never seen it done before.
Switching gears to Gen V, your portrayal of Emma has garnered a lot of well-deserved praise. With Season 2 on the horizon, what are you most looking forward to exploring with her character in the upcoming season?
Lizze Broadway: Awe, thanks! We just wrapped two months ago. This season, Emma’s going to be... different. The sparkle’s gone. She was once naive and loving, but now she’s got a harder edge. Grief has changed her, and honestly, the audience might not even recognize her at first. You’ll see a side of her you haven’t before. Honestly, I’d probably get fired or sued if I said more, but let’s just say—this season means a lot to me, personally.
