Blue Kim Reflects on the ‘Big Brother’ Experience

During the milestone 25th season of the CBS series Big Brother, audiences were introduced to the undeniably charismatic standout contestant Blue Kim — whose experience was nothing short of eventful. Because, during her time in the Big Brother house, the California-born brand strategist managed to form formidable alliances, win a Veto, and make it to the impressive jury portion of the game to help crown a winner.

After exiting the overwhelming chaos of the Big Brother house, Blue has since garnered an even larger reach through her fire aesthetic and a tendency to create entertaining content. In fact, whether it’s Blue’s recent Big Brother alum-centric cooking series “Family Style,” daily adventures, or a bold attempt at relying on a self-driving car, it’s clear that she’s committed to sharing her entirely iconic behavior. It’s giving kitty kitty purr boots down — and iykyk.

Now, the one and only Blue is looking back at her colorful Big Brother experience, the current events of BB26, and what she’d do with a second chance at the game.

Looking back at your time on Big Brother 25, what was your initial strategy going into the house?

Blue: My initial strategy was to play a mean social game! I adapt well to most situations and people, so whether you’re the jock, the nerd, the pretty girl, or the mamas — I wanted to be besties with ya.

After you left the house, and the series wrapped — was there a moment you watched back that genuinely caught you by surprise?

Blue: I’m not gonna lie, I still haven’t watched the season [laughs]. But I said a quote that became a meme, and I still don’t really get why to this day. I was playing a veto competition where the evicted Houseguests were on a cruise and Mecole had a big bowl of salad. She was the best at making salads in the house and she has a slamming body so I said ‘So of course Miss Body-ody-ody Meme has a big salad’ and that shit took off [laughs] I don’t get it, but I love it.

If you had the chance to play again, would you return? And if so, is there anything you’d like to do differently?

Blue: Oh, definitely! It’s so funny because if anyone asks me how my time was, I’ll respond with ‘It was the most emotional and traumatic time of my life!’ but, of course I’ll do it again. If I were to return, I would try to play more logically and less emotionally, which is so hard when you’re stuck in that house with people you’re forced to be with. Also, I wish I learned how to do my eyelash extensions while I was in there because girl… I was in the DR [Diary Room] like every day begging for new lashes because I had to ration!

Conversely, is there one moment that you’re particularly proud of regarding your BB25 game?

Blue: I am so proud of my Veto win. Not only was I the only Female Veto holder for my season, my life was on the line and I saved myself on my own accord. On top of that, the Veto competition prior was an Endurance competition, and I held my ground for two hours while everyone dropped like flies within the first 20 minutes.

If you had to build your dream alliance with people from any season, who would be on your roster?

Blue: OMG this is such a fun question! My dream team alliance would be Izzy, Paul A., Derek X., and Hannah Chaddha — btw this would be such a fun blunt rotation too.

Post-BB25, you’ve also earned a lot of new supporters who have been loving your content across social media! What’s been your favorite aspect about getting to connect with the BB fandom since your season wrapped?

Blue: Hehehehe who me? Little old me?! Since I was recruited, I didn’t fully understand how committed and special the BB Fandom was. It didn’t fully hit me until BB26 Premiere in NYC when I was surrounded by superfans who are so dedicated year after year to this lil parking lot show. To know that people have made lifelong friends and connections through Big Brother is so special to me! And I get to be a part of that too?! Like, shut up — that’s so cute!

Moving into this season – who do you think has played the best game so far, and why? Honestly, I’m all in with Angela!

Blue: I’ve been repping my Asian sister, Rubina, through and through. She’s also a recruit who has a similar bubbly personality as me, so I see a lot of myself in her. But, I’ve also connected with Leah sooooo much. She’s such a cutie, silly girlypop who fell victim to the “Hot Girl 7th Place Evictee” curse, but Leah has my vote for AFP [America’s Favorite Player].

Plus, I’ve been supporting and chatting with both of their sisters so I feel like I have a deeper connection with the two of them.

Is there anyone on this new cast that you think would have wanted to play alongside – and why would you work well with them?

Blue: I think I would’ve been in a powerful final two with Leah, we were both extremely loyal to our people and it blindsided us. Plus, it would’ve been so fun to do lil makeovers, GRWMs together, and share a lil cuddle; omg, I sound like I have a crush on her, sorry Reilly!

You’ve been in alliances, a showmance, a few blindsides, and all of the chaos someone should expect in the game. That being said, what advice would you give to future Big Brother contestants based on your experience?

Blue: When it comes to the competitions, keep. your. cool. Slow down, take a breath, and relax.

I also recommend trusting in yourself and listening to yourself. Even if you make the wrong moves, at least you can say that you moved in a way that was best for you and no one would be able to take that away from you. And again, try to not lead your game solely based off of your emotions!

In closing, you’ve been creating a lot of fun collabs with other houseguests lately – so out of the remaining cast, who are you most eager to work with?

Blue: I have a few more ‘Family Styles’ episodes to finalize this season, but I guess you’ll just have to wait and see who I’m calling up next! I think it would be really fun to have Julie Chen on an episode of ‘Family Style’ though [laughs]. Hit me up, Julie!
