Texas Chain Saw Massacre: The Game Reveals a New Mode Titled ‘Rush Week’
Next week, Texas Chain Saw Massacre: The Game is officially set to introduce an exhilarating new game mode called “Rush Week,” which promises to bring a fresh and intense experience to the already thrilling game. Here’s a detailed look at what players can expect from this upcoming mode.
A Giallo-Inspired Horror Experience
“Rush Week” draws inspiration from the Giallo subgenre of horror films, known for their stylish visuals and suspenseful narratives. In terms of backdrop, the mode is set in the Omega Sigma Theta Sorority House, a two-story building filled with multiple hiding spots, including a locked basement and an attic with a unique escape route.
New and Familiar Gameplay Mechanics
In “Rush Week,” players will be randomly divided into two perk-less roles: Johnny “Pretty Boy” Slaughter and six sorority girls. Johnny’s objective is to hunt down the sorority girls, while the girls must complete various objectives to survive and escape.
Following the pattern of its popular predecessor Friday the 13th: The Game, the sorority girls can use items like car keys to unlock a car and call the police or complete a fuse objective to use a phone in the house. They can also use weapons and distractions such as wrenches, knives, pepper spray, and perfume to fend off Johnny — and apparently, windows and hiding spots will play a pivotal detail in the survival aspect.
Fear System
A unique feature of “Rush Week” is the newly implemented Fear system. As the sorority girls’ fear levels increase, Johnny can sense their fear, making it easier to locate them. And as he earns a kill, he only gets stronger and harder to avoid. To counter this, the girls must complete various mini-objectives to lower their fear levels and slow Johnny’s tracking. So needless to say, teamwork seems crucial.
Authenticity and Canon
The developers have worked closely with Kim Henkel, co-writer of the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre film, to ensure that “Rush Week” stays true to the franchise’s authenticity while exploring new narratives. This mode is confirmed to take place five years after the events of the original game, providing a new timeline for Johnny’s character who is now on the run. A mini sequel regarding Johnny’s whereabouts? Count us in!
Rush Week Arrives Next Week
All things considered; “Rush Week” is certainly poised to offer a thrilling new way to experience The Texas Chain Saw Massacre: The Game. With its Giallo-inspired setting, intense gameplay mechanics, and a unique Fear system, the unexpected game mode is sure to captivate both new and veteran players alike. However, there’s just one drawback for TCM players who play in a group setting — no matchmaking with friends… While we did get that feature on Friday the 13th, it appears that “Rush Week” won’t be embracing that specific matchmaking option.
If you’re excited to check out the new mode, purchasing the anniversary event content pass later this week will offer early access to the “Rush Week” experience beginning on September 27, ahead of its wide release four days later.
