Get ready to digivolve! After years of anticipation, Bandai Namco Entertainment has officially announced the next installment in the Digimon Story series: Digimon Story Time Stranger. And to make the news even better, the game is actually set to launch in 2025 on PlayStation 5, answering our plea for a new thrilling Digimon adventure.

This exciting news was first revealed during PlayStation's State of Play event in February 2025, sending waves of excitement through the loyal Digimon community. Here’s what we’ve learned so far!

A New Story with Familiar Faces

While details are still emerging, it's confirmed that Time Stranger will feature a completely new storyline. Players will take on the role of an original protagonist tasked with unraveling the cause of the world's destruction and preventing its doom—retaining the series' signature blend of high-stakes narratives. And, as the game’s website states, players are going to change fate with this journey across “time and parallel worlds.”

Longtime fans will be pleased to know that beloved Digimon like Patamon, Angewoman, Garurumon, and (presumably) the rest of the original lineup will be making appearances, though they’re likely playing different roles than we’ve seen in previous titles.

Another exciting component: engaging turn-based combat that merges tactical strategy with enhanced gameplay mechanics. A vast array of Digimon and extensive customization choices offer endless possibilities for tackling battle challenges and showcasing the power of the connections you cultivate with your Digimon.
